Re-shaping teeth is something we do all the time. it’s considered
cosmetic dentistry, but it is incredibly simple, almost never requires
any numbing, and usually takes only a minute or two.
It can be something as simple as evening off a chipped area like you
see below. What a huge difference in his smile, from simply doing
this!
Or it can be changing the general shape of the teeth as in the photos
below. The teeth right next to the central incisors (the two middle
upper front teeth) are the “lateral
incisors”. Notice that the outer sides of the lateral incisors
flair outward and that the corners of her central incisors were a
little sharp and squared off. Now look at the “after” photo
to see how we reduced the flair of the outer sides of the lateral
incisors, and ‘softened’ the look of her teeth by gently
shaping the corners of her central incisors. These subtle changes
made a huge difference in her smile.
The next set of photographs shows a patient who complained that he “looks
like a vampire”. His cuspid teeth were very pointed, and
very eye-catching. Simple re-shaping of the tips of all four cuspid
teeth removed this “pointed fang” look.
