Even After a Cleaning?
Often patients have stains in very hard-to-clean places, such as
in-between the teeth. Even the dentist's instruments couldn't
get these tough stains off -- until now!
It
used to drive me crazy that I sometimes couldn't get all the stain off
between my patient's teeth when doing their cleaning. Even my
thinnest instruments couldn't get in deep enough.
Well,
I've found an incredible instrument. It's called an air polisher. It
is an instrument that sprays out water and sodium bicarbonate. The
two sprays join each other just after they spray out the tip of the instrument. See
the photos below:
The sodium bicarbonate is not abrasive enough to affect the tooth enamel
at all, but it is abrasive enough to get off stain. Since it sprays
onto the teeth in water, it gets in EVERYWHERE!!
Just take a look at a few very hard to clean areas below. All
of the following 'before' photos were taken AFTER the regular
polishing of the teeth. Sure, without the air polisher we would
have scraped and scraped on the areas of stain left after the polishing
with sharp metal instruments, and we would have gotten SOME of
the tenacious stains off, but there still would have been a significant
amount of stain even after that. Take a look at the 'after' photos
of these same teeth. These photos were taken after spraying the
air polisher on these teeth for just a few seconds:
Isn't that amazing? And here's another interesting thing -- when
we see these patients at their next cleaning visit, we find that not
nearly as much stain has built up as we have previously seen. This
is probably because the air polisher has left the areas so smooth and
clean that new stain does not accumulate as quickly.
Our
patients like the fact that they leave our office with cleaner teeth
than they have had in YEARS! And, instead of them enduring
the scraping with metal instruments for several minutes, we only spray
a refreshing spray with a minty taste for a few seconds--and the stain
stays away much longer. Can't beat that!!
