Laser dentistry makes it possible for you to have a completely
comfortable dental visit with no shots, no drills, and no pain. We
can do many fillings using the Waterlase and Waterlase MD lasers.
In addition, a laser does not cause microcracking of the teeth,
and it actually sterilizes the tooth as the decay is being removed.
This means less chance of needing future crowns and root canal
treatment.
The newest and most advanced dental laser is the Waterlase MD
laser. Dr. Kurthy was one of the first in the world to have
this laser. |
How does the Waterlase work?
Both the Waterlase and Waterlase MD lasers remove decayed tooth
structure (cavities) by selectively energizing microscopic water
droplets. It is these laser-energized water droplets that rapidly
remove and vaporize the tooth decay. |

What are the Benefits of the Waterlase Laser?
- Heat and vibration are the causes of most of the pain associated
with the drill. Since removing decayed tooth structure with Waterlase® Technology
does not cause heat or vibration, many dental procedures can be performed
with no pain, virtually eliminating the need for anesthesia in many
cases.
- The Waterlase® removes decay very precisely which allows you
to keep healthy tooth structure and have healthier teeth longer.
- The Waterlase® avoids many common problems of the high speed
drill, including cracks in the teeth from the vibration and rapid turning
of the drill burrs which can weaken your teeth. The Waterlase™ sterilizes
as it removes cavities, reducing the chance of bacterial contamination.
- The Waterlase® prepares your teeth in a way
that maximizes the bonding of tooth colored fillings, allowing them
to last longer.
Is the Laser Safe?
All dental lasers are safe when operated by a well-trained dentist, however
the Waterlase is even much safer than most other lasers. It has
only a 2 mm active range from the tip of the laser, not only providing
pinpoint accuracy, but also reducing the chance of causing damage to
healthy tissues.
